Last Week's Assignments:
    • Read, "The Ransom of Red Chief" starting on page 70 in the Literature books
    • Discuss vocabulary
    • Irony activities- Irony is a contrast or contradiction between what is stated and what is meant or what is expected and what actually happens.

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the notes that you missed.  Here are the vocabulary words that have been covered so far. You will need to look up the definitions for each of these words if you are not in class.
Vocabulary: Evaluate, Self-Monitor, Characterization, Descriptive text, Rising Action, Climax, Cause and Effect, Editorials, Expository text, Validity, Problem/Solution, First Person, Limited View, and Omniscient. Accuracy, Affix, Assertion, Analysis, Appositive, Compound Words, Conventions of Language, Differentiate, Epic, Explicit, Fluency, Focus, Free Verse, Graphic Organizer, Impilcit, Irony, and Legends.  Limerick, Literary Devices, Literary Structures, Paraphrase, Phonics, Possessive, Print Media, and Public Document.
 
 

This Week's Assignments:

  • Watch the movie, "The Ransom of Red Chief" as a review for the test.
  • Assessment on "The Ransom of Red Chief." Tuesday January 13th
  • Read articles from Scholastic "Scope" magazine
  • Discuss Presidential poetry and prose
  • Perform readers theater, "Hotel for Dogs."

  • We will be starting to read the novel, "The Outsiders" in class starting on Tuesday January 20th.
