Mr. Gougler - American History |
|
Jim’s sauce rules! Hi, my name is Glenn Gougler and
while I was growing up here I never could have imagined that I would be a teacher, let alone be one in this district. My degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University allowed me to travel all over
the United States for three years and even a trip to South America but something was pulling me to teaching. California University of PA was the place for me to get my Secondary Social Studies teaching certification. The years that I have spent at the Middle School since 1997 have been incredibly challenging
and exhausting. However, this has also been the most rewarding time of my life
thanks to the many wonderful students and teachers that I have had the pleasure of getting to know over the years. I am proud to have been born and raised here. I am proud to
live here. And lastly, I am privileged to spend every single day helping students
to realize just how wonderful the world is that Atlas is carrying on his back.
Hi, I'm Jim Koch. I've been a resident of West Mifflin since my family moved
here when I was 2 years old. I went to Locust Grove Elementary, Homeville Jr. High, and graduated from West Mifflin
North in 19 X (calculate equation below to find out the year). Later, I graduated from Slippery Rock University
with a major in Math. I began teaching at Homeville Jr. High that fall and have been teaching at the various schools
in the district since. During those years I have taught Mathematics courses from general 6th grade Math to Geometry.
For the past year, I have had mainly Algebra classes with a few pre-algebra and 7th grade classes. In conclusion, I
am looking forward to the upcoming year and all of the challenges and rewards that came with it.

Hi, I am Christy Kozar! I am in my 12th year of teaching and it has been a great experience so far. I can't believe
how fast the time has gone by. I spent my first year as a day-to-day substitute in the Butler Area. I felt lucky
to have gotten a job offer in the School District of Penn Hills the next year. It wasn't as good of a fit as I had hoped
and I continued looking for another school district. The following year, I was hired by West Mifflin Area School District.
It was a much better fit and I am in my 10th year here.
Since my hire at West Mifflin's
Middle School, I have gone on to earn my Master's Degree at Marygrove College in the Art of Teaching, become the Science Department
Chairperson, spent several years coaching volleyball, worked with Mrs. Householder doing the Science Fair, and spent several
years working with Mrs. Pankuch on the school newspaper.

for a company in Pittsburgh and decided to go back to school for teaching. I graduated from Pitt after completing my
student teaching at Franklin Regional High School located in Murrysville, PA. I am currently attending IUP to obtain
my Masters in Education. As part of Eighth Grade Team A (Team Atlas), I look forward to having you in class and
am excited for a great year!

Mrs. Baumgardner - Reading |
|
Hello, my name is Amy Baumgardner. I am teaching 8th grade reading
this year on team Atlas. This will be my seventh year teaching, but my first in West Mifflin. I went to school
for both my undergraduate degree and masters at Ohio University before moving to Colorado. I taught many different grades
while in Colorado including, 2nd, 5th, and 6th. I lived there for five years and enjoyed hiking in the mountains,
amazing weather, and the fantastic people there. Since I am from the Pittsburgh area, my husband and I decided it was
time to move back home last year. While it has been an adjustment for us, we are really enjoying being near our families
and the city of Pittsburgh.
I am excited to be teaching reading this year at the middle school.
Reading is one of my passions and I hope to pass on the "love of reading" to my students.
