Our team name comes from one of the Titans of Mythology, Atlas. Atlas was the son of one
of the original twelve Titans, Iapetus, and his wife, Klymene. He has three brothers: Prometheus, Epimetheus,
and Menoetius. Atlas, along with Phoebe (another Titan) governed the phases of the moon. Two of Atlas' brothers,
Prometheus and Epimetheus, sided with the Olympians (and Zeus) in the war against the Titans. Zeus thought that
Atlas and Menoetius could be persuaded to change sides, also, and fight with their brothers. That wasn't the case and
Atlas was punished by Zeus for siding with the other Titans in the war. His punishment is to stand at the western edge
of the Earth and hold the heavens on his shoulders for eternity.
There is no doubt that Atlas is both strong of character for staying loyal to the Titans in the
war against the Olympians and physically strong to hold the weight of the heavens for eternity. He accepted the consequence
from the choice he made without complaint. We are looking for our team members to have the strength, loyalty, compassion,
and intelligence of Atlas.
